2GIG-PIR1-345

The 2gig motion sensor offers wide angle motion protection. The sensor has a sensitivity adjustment from low to high which is easily set by opening the back of the sensor. When the adjustment is set to high sensitivity the maximum range is 30 feet deep by 50 feet wide. There is built in pet immunity that works with pets in the range of 33 lbs – 55 lbs.

The 2gig motion sensor is a wireless device that works with the 2gig GoControl Panel. Since the device is wireless there is no access holes that allow bugs and insects to cause false alarms by getting inside the device. This does not stop them from crawling across the outside of the detector. It is important to keep the device clean and free from cobwebs and dust accumulation.

Home Security Motion Detectors

Motion Detector have a specific purpose in the protection of your home. Of course it is used to “see” motion in a designated area. Many security companies and Do It Yourselfers misuse the device. The popular notion is that one motion detector can be used in place of several door contacts. One must remember that in order for the motion sensor to work the intruder must already be inside your home. If they have reached the inside before triggering the alarm then they will most likely steal something or at a minimum they will damage your home.

 Wired Motion Detectors

The 2Gig Go Control System will not support wired motion detectors. If you are upgrading an existing system that has motion detectors then you can utilize the 2gig Super Switch and incorporate the wired detectors into your new system. This will make your system a hybrid system and the devices will be wired to the old control panel. The super switch communicates with the new wireless system from the old control panel location. Wired motion detectors require two pairs of wire to each detector. One pair of wires supplies 12volts and the other pair is your alarm pair. When the alarm pair is opened the system will trigger.

Wireless Motion Detectors

The use of wireless devices has made the job of a professional alarm installer and the Do It Yourselfer much easier. The days of running wire to all of your alarm system devices are no longer necessary. Your wireless motion sensors have power supplied by batteries. The system can detect when the batteries are getting low which prompts you to install new batteries. The batteries typically last for approximately one year. They can last longer but it all depends on how many times the detector is triggered.

Installation of the Motion Sensor

The installation of your motion detector is relatively simple. There are several mounting options available. The unit has a corner mount or a mount to be able to mount straight on a wall. It all depends on the area that you are trying to protect. The lens pattern is 100 degrees, so you need to look at the area and see where a potential burglar may enter. Do not point your motion detector at a window that is subject to bright sunlight. A good rule of thumb is to look at the traffic patterns in your home. If a burglar is in your home they will have to follow these traffic areas to access the areas of your home. Place your motion detector so that an intruder must cross the beam of the motion and it will then trigger your alarm system.

Your will need to consider additional things if you have pets. The sensor is designed to have built in pet immunity functions but you must also take other things into consideration. Do not point the motion detector at any areas that your pet may climb on. If you have a couch close to the detector location and your dog or cat climbs on the furniture it could potentially trigger the alarm. If you analyze all of the potential situations ahead of time then you can keep false alarms to a minimum.

Testing the Motion Sensor

Once you have mounted the detector you should perform a walk test. This test will allow you to see that the detector is working but if you pay attention you will see at what points the system will be triggered. You should also remove the cover from the detector. This will trigger the tamper alarm. Make sure that keep your detectors clean and also test them monthly to ensure proper operation.
